Harissa Turkey Meatballs

Ingredients

For the meatballs:

  • 1 lb. ground turkey

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

  • 3 tbsp harissa

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1 tbsp. olive oil

For the sauce:

  • 1/4 cup harissa

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 tsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, harissa, egg, parsley, garlic, and seasoning. Mix well with your hands until all the ingredients are well combined.

  3. Form the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. Drizzle the meatballs with olive oil. Bake for 20 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through and golden brown on the outside.

  5. While the meatballs are baking, add the harissa, brown sugar, and water to a sauce pan on medium heat. Bring to a simmer and stir constantly or about 2-3 minutes or until the sugar is dissolved. Sprinkle the cornstarch over the mixture and stir to combine. Lower and heat and let the sauce thicken for about 3 minutes.

  6. Once the meatballs are out of the oven, toss in the sauce until evenly coated.
