Ingredients

For the Baklava
  • 1 pack Phyllo Dough The key to flaky layers; keep covered to maintain moisture.
  • 2 cups Walnuts Essential for a nutty filling; finely chop for perfect texture.
  • 1 cup Pistachios Adds richness and color; substitute with almonds if desired.
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Brush between layers for a golden, crispy finish.

Method

How to Make Irresistible Rich Lebanese Baklava
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a baking dish with melted butter.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine finely chopped walnuts, pistachios, granulated sugar, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  3. Start with a sheet of phyllo dough in your greased dish, brushing it lightly with melted butter. Repeat for five layers.
  4. Spread one-third of your nut mixture on top of the layered phyllo. Continue layering phyllo sheets and the nut mixture.
  5. Slice the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking for easy serving and syrup absorption.
  6. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
  7. While it bakes, combine honey, water, and remaining sugar in a saucepan. Simmer gently until thickened.
  8. Once out of the oven, immediately pour the hot syrup over the baklava and let it soak for a few minutes.
  9. Optional: Garnish with additional chopped nuts or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
